CHHOM NIMOL OF DENGUE FEVER

The beautiful lead singer of LA based band Dengue Fever, Chhom Nimol, recently wore our Draped Front Tank.  Dengue Fever is an incredible band influenced by sixties Cambodian pop music infused with psychedelia and surf.  I saw them live for the first time at SXSW this past year but have been hooked from when I first heard their album “Venus on Earth”.  Also involving this amazing band was Director John Pirozzi’s documentary “Sleepwalking Through The Mekong” that follows them through their tour in Cambodia which ultimately leads to a journey of self transformation and cultural revelation.

SENA ♥ Tarte

My must have summer product has been Tarte’s LipSurgence Lip Stain.  A perfect hybrid between a gloss and a lipstick with extreme staying power, this Eco-Friendly product stays on all day and tastes like peppermint.  Being Eco-Friendly was key as all the leather and fur in my Fall collection are faux.  I first came across this product at the Sephora location in Times Square in the Tarte section where I spoke with the Tarte Merchandiser who happened to be there.  After expressing my frustration for finding a perfect summer lip stain that wouldn’t dry out my lips she suggested I try theirs and since then I have been religiously using “Amused” an amazingly expressive fuschia and “Lust” for the perfect berry pout.  Since then, I’ve turned on all my friends to this product who are also raving and spreading the good word not just about the Lip Stain but their EmphasEYES liner!  I will definitely be using these products in my upcoming Spring 2011 Lookbook Photoshoot at MILK Studios. But better yet, looks like I’ll be using these through Fall as they’ve just released a MATTE version of this amazing product!

BACK TO THE BASICS

Today I went to the Gagosian, Mike Weiss and Paul Kasmin Galleries.  The Gagosian had a great Roy Lichtenstein show up while Paul Kasmin had an intriguing David LaChapelle series.  My favorite visit was to the Mike Weiss Gallery featuring work by Marc Seguin and Dead Dads Club Corporation where they were having a show called the “Reflexive Self” where ideas of the view of the self in the context of the people and situations around them were explored.  Having always been a fan of contrast in all types of visual work, I loved the understated vs. bold accents in Seguin’s work like “Mata Hari #2”.  Dead Dads Club Corporation blew me away with their insane large scale Crayola Crayon pieces.
